Diplomacias

A mensagem de Gordon Brown é categórica:

"It is also right that I make clear my position on the forthcoming EU-Africa Summit. I want this summit – under the leadership of [Portugal's] Prime Minister Socrates – to be a real success. It is a serious opportunity to forge a stronger partnership between the EU and Africa in order to fight poverty, tackle climate change, and agree new initiatives on education, health and peacekeeping. President Mugabe's attendance would mean lifting the EU visa ban that we have collectively imposed. I believe that President Mugabe's presence would undermine the summit, diverting attention from the important issues that need to be resolved. Nestas questões o pragmatismo tem de imperar: o Sr. Mugabe transformou a antiga Rodésia do Sul num país onde grassa o terror e a tirania infame. Muito justamente foi banido de viajar para o espaço da UE, e como tal não se percebe por parte da diplomacia portuguesa estas manobras.

Por mais que custe, é preferível não haver cimeira UE-África do que dar cobertura a tão sinistra personagem!
